Urban Anthropology

Social anthropology is an important theoretical and methodological field for the social sciences, which offers special optics for exploration of social processes. The ability to use such optics and combine it with other sociological paradigms will allow students to expand their skills in researching social problems. Within the course, students will learn about key theoretical approaches in the field of social anthropology, as well as acquire skills in application of social research methodology inherent in this tradition, including practices such as participant observation, analysis of documents, unstructured in-depth interviews. The course consists of two parts. The first will consider the main theoretical works in social anthropology, the second will include the study of specific social problems of the urban environment by means of anthropological methodology.
